- Text, text, text is better than tttttteeexxxxxttttt.
- Send short text messages back to back to back rather than long-winded paragraphs.
This tactic is about being aware of ingrained communication methods that are geared towards being a polite person and intentionally adjusting style to get better results. Now let me explain (by using long-winded paragraphs).
Are you still reading? Amazing! We must have a relationship that spans longer than 15 seconds. Or maybe you were referred to this post by a friend that you trust. Most new visitors won’t take the time to read beyond bullet point one from someone they don’t know. Think about this concept when you’re following up with leads.
This is a quick example of something the polite person inside us all may send by default when a new lead hits the inbox…
Hey Beth, thank you for registering on my website. I’ve been working in real estate for 22 years and serve the entire Greater Phoenix marketplace. Do you have time to chat about what you’re looking for in the next day or two?
You can check out the reviews my clients have written about working with me. You’ll see I pride myself on taking care of my clients with white-glove service and maintain a high level of integrity that’s second to none. Give me a call when you get a chance. I look forward to connecting.
Such a nice message. If I got this I would think, oh man, I need to schedule time to read this one. And then I would need to schedule even more time to connect with this talker. No quick to the point anything here. I might also think this agent isn’t very busy if they have time to draft these lengthy texts.
People don’t like to read long texts.
However, people will read a series of short texts. They almost can’t help but read it when the whole thing shows up in their notification window. We’re constantly trying to break-through the attention protection systems that all of us have these days. To do that, I have found success doing this instead:

Reasons why this works better
- I hope you can appreciate the three pings in a row on their phone creating a sense of urgency and importance from whoever is texting them.
- This style doesn’t feel as automated as some responses I’ve seen. After all, we’re trying to prove our humanity now that Ai auto-responders are so prevalent.
- This real estate agent appears to be efficient with their time and communication. Right off the bat, no fluff. Not only could I read these messages quickly, but it appears this agent is direct and to the point.
- I didn’t bury questions mid-text that are easy to miss. In fact I didn’t even ask a question. Let’s all assume that whatever they did to end up in your inbox was them asking YOU to reach out.
I encourage you to adjust the texts to make it your own and try it. This strategy is one that breaks through attention defense systems and gets conversations going much better than longwinded messages.
Oh, and for the record, this style is polite too because respecting someone’s time is 💰💰💰.
