Saw this car on my way to work and thought … this is what real estate looks like on the outside; fancy cars and custom plates. I had an agent tell me one time they got into the business because growing up one of his neighbors was an agent and always had a fancy car so… 1 + 1 = 2
What’s not talked about is the level of ANXIETY that comes with helping people with the largest financial transaction of their lives. And how REALTORS® deal with it in different ways.
I had a great week; got recommended by a friend to speak at Inman Connect in San Diego in July, I hosted a call night for our team on Monday where I set two listing appointments, and at our team meeting I randomly called a seller that picked up and set another listing appointment after a 9minute call in front of everyone… I was pumped!
And still…. two nights this week it’s been hard for me to get to sleep because a deal is haunting me.
As agent’s we put ourselves into highly emotional and financially important situations and if you’re not PERFECT, it can affect your head.
Sorry to get on a soapbox, I don’t like the phrase mental health. But when I see a fancy car with a custom real estate license plate I think – that person’s been through some sh!t and has intentionally practiced keeping a positive mindset. I wonder what their go-to trick is that works for them?
Yeah I know the more deals you do the easier it gets, but whenever I bring up the fact anxiety comes with certain deals I usually get a head nod and a solid conversation of how each successful person deals with it in their own way.
FWIW – I don’t talk about our team as an emotional support system for this lonely business, but this week has shown me it is.
I hope you have a buddy to call when your mind is eating you. If not, just know I get what you’re going through. And as my mother would say, “Keep your head up, this too shall pass.”
